Hortgro Bursaries 2026

Hortgro invites South African students to apply for their Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

Location: South Africa (at a recognised tertiary institution)


Fields Covered

Bursaries will be awarded for studies in the following fields:

  • Agri-Management
  • Agricultural Biotechnology
  • Agricultural Economics
  • Agricultural Science
  • Entomology
  • Horticulture (Production / Post-harvest)
  • Marketing Specialist
  • Microbiology
  • Plant Pathology
  • Project Management
  • Soil and Water Science

Bursary Expectations

Bursary recipients are expected to:

  • Provide quarterly updates to Hortgro on academic progress and well-being
  • Submit semester results
  • Maintain good conduct during their studies
  • Attend Hortgro events and functions
  • Maintain satisfactory performance to renew the bursary each year
  • Work with a mentor provided by Hortgro

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have completed Matric or currently be in Matric
  • Be pursuing or intending to pursue a qualification in one of the listed fields
  • Be registered or intending to register at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Meet the admission requirements for the selected course

Documents Required (if shortlisted):

  • Certified copy of ID document (or both sides of ID card)
  • Matric certificate or latest results (certified)
  • Tertiary academic record and proof of registration (if applicable)
  • Estimated cost of study (fees, books, accommodation)
  • Parents’/Guardians’ ID documents and proof of income
  • Proof of any other bursaries or funding
  • Essay (written by hand on the application form):
    • About yourself
    • Career plans
    • Future vision in agriculture
    • Why you deserve the bursary
  • Contact details of 2 references
