Implats Bursary Programme 2027

Impala Platinum Refineries is offering bursary opportunities to current Matric learners who intend to study towards selected NQF Level 7 degree qualifications in 2027.

The bursary provides financial support as well as development opportunities that may help students gain practical exposure to the industry.

Fields of Study

Bursaries will be awarded for degree studies in:

  • Chemical Engineering.
  • Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Chemistry.
  • Electrical Engineering, preferably Heavy Current.
  • Mechanical Engineering.

Applicants should ensure that the qualification they intend to study falls within one of the listed fields.

Vacation Work Opportunities

Bursary recipients may participate in vacation work at Impala Platinum Refineries during the:

December / January holidays

This can provide students with practical workplace exposure while completing their studies.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens.
  • Be currently in Matric.
  • Intend to study towards an NQF Level 7 degree in one of the approved fields.
  • Have achieved at least 60% / Level 5 for English in Grade 11.
  • Have achieved at least 60% / Level 5 for Physical Science in Grade 11.
  • Have achieved at least 60% / Level 5 for Mathematics in Grade 11.

Preference will be given to students from:

  • Eastern Ekurhuleni.
  • Ward 72.
  • Schools surrounding the operation.

Academic Requirements

Applicants need a minimum Grade 11 result of:

English: 60% / Level 5
Physical Science: 60% / Level 5
Mathematics: 60% / Level 5

These results form part of the stated minimum entry criteria.
