Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is offering internship opportunities for the 2025/2027 cycle across its three major venues — Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein), Soweto Theatre (Jabulani), and Roodepoort Theatre (Florida).
Closing Date: Monday, 8 September 2025
Duration: Up to 24 months
Monthly Stipend: R6 094 (no additional benefits)
Eligibility:
- South African citizens (ages 18–35)
- Johannesburg community residents
- Must have completed Grade 12 and relevant qualification (Diploma/Degree/N6 where specified)
- Must not have participated in a relevant internship before
Internship Opportunities at Joburg City Theatres
1. Programming Internships (x3)
Location: Joburg Theatre, Soweto Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre
Reference: PR3/08/2025
Qualification: National Diploma/Bachelor’s in Theatre, Performing Arts, Arts Management, Project Management, or equivalent
Responsibilities include: supporting theatre productions, rehearsals, scheduling, production tracking, artist liaison, budgeting, and reporting.

2. Stage Internship (Roodepoort Theatre)
Location: Roodepoort Theatre
Reference: Stage/08/2025
Qualification: National Diploma/Equivalent in Live Events Technical Production
Responsibilities include: rigging and operating lighting, audio, AV, assisting with sets/props, routine maintenance, and equipment inventory.

3. Marketing Internship
Location: Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein)

Qualification: National Diploma in Digital Marketing, Communications, or Social Media Marketing
Responsibilities include: social media content creation, trend research, photography/videography, graphic design (Canva/Adobe), and audience engagement.

4. Graphic Design Internship
Location: Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein)

Qualification: Diploma in Multimedia or equivalent + Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premier Pro
Responsibilities include: visual design for posters, social media graphics, reports, mood boards, file management, and print-ready artwork.

5. Employee Relations (HR) Internship

Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Labour Relations, HR, Industrial Relations, or Employment Law
Responsibilities include: supporting disciplinary hearings, grievance handling, case research, CCMA/Bargaining Council documentation, and employee relations training.

Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Marketing, PR, Communications, or Media Studies
Responsibilities include: social media campaigns, press releases, event promotions, stakeholder engagement, and media monitoring.

7. Building & Security Internship

Qualification: Grade 12 or N3 (basic plumbing knowledge advantageous)
Responsibilities include: building maintenance, electrical/plumbing support, safety compliance, inspections, and basic repairs.
