Makana Municipality: EPWP Youth Graduate Internships 2026

The Makana Local Municipality invites suitably qualified unemployed youth graduates to apply for the EPWP Youth Graduates Programme, a six (6) months fixed-term contract opportunity based in Makhanda, Alicedale and Riebeek East.

This programme is implemented under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, and is aimed at providing workplace exposure, skills development, and income support to young graduates.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • A recognised Degree or Diploma in one of the following fields:
    • Environmental Management / Environmental Science
    • Occupational Health and Safety
    • Financial Management
    • Human Resources Management
    • Public Administration
    • Or an equivalent qualification
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, with a focus on local government
  • Understanding of local government and its relationship with national and provincial spheres
  • South African citizen with a valid South African ID
  • Under the age of 35 years
  • Medically fit

Selection Criteria

The programme will be implemented in line with EPWP and Employment Equity targets:

  • 100% Youth
  • 60% Women
  • 2% Persons with Disabilities

Previously disadvantaged individuals and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
