MUT Sport and Recreation Vacancies 2026

Mangosuthu University of Technology’s Sport and Recreation Unit is recruiting applicants for a number of short-term positions.

The vacancies are readvertised positions and range from three-month to four-month fixed-term contracts.

Aerobics Coach Vacancies โ€“ X3 Posts

  • A recognised relevant coaching certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Valid Police Clearance.
  • Three years’ instructing experience.
  • Safeguarding Certificate.

Knowledge of KATABOX, STEP and HI-LO, experience in group instruction and the ability to instruct boot camp sessions will be advantageous.

Successful candidates will plan structured training sessions, develop student-athletes, analyse performance, recruit potential athletes, organise mass participation programmes and submit monthly administrative records.

They must also be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Boxing Assistant Coach Vacancy โ€“ X1 Post

Position: Boxing Assistant Coach

Minimum requirements are:

  • Grade 12.
  • Level 3 Boxing Coaching Certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Five years’ coaching experience.

  • Valid Police Clearance.

The successful candidate will assist with structured training, athlete development, recruitment, performance improvement and administration of boxing-related activities.

Cheerleading Coach Vacancy โ€“ X1 Post

Position: Cheerleading Coach

  • Grade 12.
  • Proven cheerleading experience through coaching or participation.
  • First Aid Certificate.

A background in dance, gymnastics or a related field will be advantageous.

Duties include planning training sessions, recruiting student-athletes, choreographing routines, preparing teams for competitions and performances, promoting athlete welfare and ensuring compliance with university and sport federation regulations.

Football Team Manager Vacancies โ€“ X2 Posts

  • A three-year Diploma or Degree.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Three years of football team management experience.

Key responsibilities include coordinating information between players, coaches and the sport administration office, maintaining player documentation, managing fixtures and schedules, organising travel, preparing game rosters and coordinating uniforms and equipment.

Team Managers will also assist with budgets, tournament registrations, mass participation programmes and compliance with university, USSA and sport federation regulations.

Gym Attendant Vacancies โ€“ X2 Posts

  • Grade 12.
  • Recognised Fitness or Gym qualification.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Two years’ gym experience.
  • Valid Safeguarding Certificate.
  • Valid Police Clearance.

Successful applicants will be responsible for maintaining a welcoming and safe gym environment, monitoring the gym floor, keeping equipment clean and organised and assisting users with the safe operation of fitness equipment.

Gym Attendants may also act as first responders during emergencies, report equipment faults, complete incident reports and provide information about gym programmes.

Netball Assistant Coach Vacancy โ€“ X1 Post

Position: Netball Assistant Coach

Salary Scale: R4,500 โ€“ R5,000

  • Grade 12.
  • Recognised Netball coaching certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Three years’ experience in coaching and administration of Netball.
  • Valid Safeguarding Certificate.
  • Valid Police Clearance.

The successful applicant will plan training sessions, develop athletes, analyse performance, recruit student-athletes, organise participation programmes and maintain required administrative records.

The coach will also be responsible for athlete welfare and compliance with university, USSA and sport federation rules.

  • Copy of a valid driver’s licence where applicable.
  • Certified copy of a valid South African identity document.
