About the MMEG Bursary
The MMEG Bursary Programme supports women from developing countries who are committed to improving the lives of women and children through education and community impact.
The bursary is one of the few international funding opportunities dedicated specifically to women pursuing higher education.
Fields of Study Covered
The MMEG Bursary covers all fields of study towards:
- Certificate qualifications
- Undergraduate qualifications
- Graduate qualifications
- Post Doctorate studies
The bursary is available to female students studying at selected accredited universities in South Africa.
Bursary Value
Successful applicants may receive funding of up to:
- US$7 500 (approximately R120 000)
The final grant amount may vary depending on funding availability and exchange rates.
Eligible Universities
Applicants must be studying at one of the approved South African institutions, including:
- University of Cape Town
- University of Johannesburg
- University of Pretoria
- University of Limpopo
- University of KwaZulu-Natal
- University of the Witwatersrand
- Stellenbosch University
- University of Venda
- Tshwane University of Technology
- Walter Sisulu University
And other accredited institutions listed by MMEG.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen or from an eligible country
- Identify as female
- Be 25 years or older at the application deadline
- Be enrolled full-time or part-time
- Be registered for in-person studies
- Be studying towards a recognised qualification
- Have at least one academic term remaining after the bursary award
- Plan to graduate within three years after receiving the grant
Applicants must also demonstrate commitment to helping women and children in developing countries.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
- Certified ID or passport copy
- Study permit or visa (for foreign students)
- Proof of university registration
- Academic transcripts and latest results
- Personal motivation and financial information
- Thesis or study summary (if applicable)
- Two reference letters
Documents should preferably be submitted in PDF format.
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a telephonic interview.
Successful applicants will be notified personally, while final results will be published on the MMEG website.
