The Moshal Scholarship is one of South Africa’s most impactful funding programmes, offering more than just financial assistance. The programme provides full-wrap support—empowering promising students from low-income families to access university degrees in high-demand fields.
Fields Covered by the Moshal Scholarship
Scholarships will be awarded for degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and Commerce fields at selected universities.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Moshal Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be in Matric or have completed Matric
- Intend to study full-time toward a degree in one of the listed fields in 2026
- Be accepted or applying to one of the following universities:
- Nelson Mandela University (NMU)
- Rhodes University (RU)
- Stellenbosch University (SUN)
- University of Cape Town (UCT)
- University of the Free State (UFS)
- University of Johannesburg (UJ)
- University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)
- University of Pretoria (UP)
- University of the Western Cape (UWC)
- University of the Witwatersrand (WITS)
- Achieve minimum 70% for English, Mathematics, Physical Science and/or Accounting
- Come from a financially needy household with a family income not exceeding R200 000 per annum

- ID copy
- Passport and study visa copies (if not a South African citizen)
- Parents/guardians’ ID copies
- Declaration/Consent Form (if under 18)
- Proof of social grants OR parents/guardians’ 3 months bank statements
- Grade 11 November results
Documents Required at a Later Stage (if shortlisted)
- Matric final results (if currently in Matric)
- Latest university transcript (if already studying)
- Proof of acceptance/provisional acceptance to university
- NBT scores (if available)
- Proof of application for other funding
- Parents/guardians’ payslips
