About Nedbank Bursaries 2027

Nedbank is inviting students to apply for its External Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year.

The bursary programme is aimed at academically deserving students who are in financial need and want to study, or are already studying, but do not have the financial means to fund their education.

Fields of Study Covered

Bursaries will be awarded for studies towards a first undergraduate or Honours degree or diploma in the following fields:

  • Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • STEM-related fields
  • Green Economy skills

What Are Green Economy Skills?

Green Economy skills refer to areas of study focused on improving social well-being and social equity while reducing environmental risks and ecological insufficiency.

These may include fields linked to:

  • Reduction of carbon emissions
  • Pollution reduction
  • Enhancing natural capital
  • Increasing energy efficiency
  • Increasing materials efficiency
  • Environmental sustainability

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be South African citizens
  • Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Must be studying or intending to study towards a first undergraduate or Honours degree or diploma in 2027
  • Field of study must focus on STEM or Green Economy skills
  • Must be studying or accepted to study full-time at a recognised and accredited public University or University of Technology in South Africa
  • Must have a strong academic record
  • Must have passed Mathematics in Matric
  • Mathematics Literacy will not be accepted
  • Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% for the 2026 academic year at Matric or University level
  • Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% for all subjects aligned to the university qualification
  • Must have proven financial need, determined by household income
  • Applicants under 18 years old must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to apply

Important Notes

Applicants should ensure that they meet all minimum requirements before applying.

Students applying with Mathematics Literacy may not be considered, as Mathematics is required.

Financial need will be assessed based on household income.

  • Proof of admission to a South African public university or university of technology
  • A completedย Nedbank Financial Checks Affidavitย (.pdf) โ€“ signed by the applicant AND parent or guardian
  • Your latest 3 monthsโ€™ bank statements
