About Northam Eland Platinum Mine
Northam Eland Platinum Mine is a high-quality, growth-enabling mining operation within the Northam Platinum Limited group. Located in the North West Province close to Brits, Hartbeespoort and Pretoria, the mine promotes “Smart Platinum Mining” and offers strong platforms for skills development, artisan training and long-term career growth.
For 2026, the mine is offering both 36-month learnerships and 12-month internships combining structured theoretical training with practical workplace exposure in a real mining environment.
Learnership Opportunities (36 Months)
Learnership Programme Overview
The learnership programme is a three-year structured learning journey that combines:
- Theoretical training
- Practical, on-the-job experience
- Progression towards an Artisan qualification upon successful completion
These opportunities are open to both internal and external applicants who meet the minimum requirements.
Available Learnership Trades & Reference Numbers
Learnerships are available in the following trades:
- Diesel Electrical Fitter – Ref: DEF04
- Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Ref: HEM04
- Auto Electrician – Ref: AUT04
- Plater/Welder – Ref: PLT04
Learnership Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the learnerships, applicants must have:
- Completed N2 subjects, or
- NCV Level 4 with 7 subjects, or
- An equivalent qualification not less than Grade 12
- Minimum E-symbol (40%) in relevant subjects
- Good conduct and attendance record
- Medical Certificate of Fitness (as per Mine Health and Safety Act 29/1996)
Compulsory Subjects (per trade)
For the relevant trades, the following subjects are compulsory:
- Mathematics (NOT Mathematical Literacy)
- Engineering Science
- Engineering Drawing
- Diesel Trade Theory / Electrical Trade Theory / Plater/Welder Trade Theory (depending on the chosen trade)
Selection will follow the Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine Recruitment Operating Procedure (as per your original text style, but applied here: at Northam Eland, selection will be aligned with mine values, Employment Equity and Mining Charter objectives).
Internship Opportunities (12 Months)
Internship Programme Overview
Northam Eland Platinum Mine is also offering 12-month internship opportunities for graduates who require workplace exposure to complete or complement their qualifications.
The internships are available internally and externally, depending on the discipline.
Internship Disciplines & Reference Numbers
Internships are available in the following fields:
- Mining (Internal or External) – Ref: MIN04
- Mine Ventilation (Internal or External) – Ref: MIV04
- Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (External) – Ref: ENG04
- Geology (Internal) – Ref: GEO04
Internship Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the internship programme, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 Certificate
- A National Diploma or Degree (NQF 6 or 7) in one of the following:
- Mining
- Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical)
- Geology (BSc Degree)
- Required work exposure for qualification purposes
- Medical Certificate of Fitness
- Must not have participated in an internship before
Internship Role Overview & Duties
Interns will:
- Gain practical workplace-based experience in their discipline
- Work closely with experienced professionals and technical teams
- Contribute to real-world mining and engineering projects
- Commit to the full 12-month internship period
