The Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG) invites students residing in the province to apply for the Provincial Transversal Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

About the Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG)
The Northern Cape Government provides services and laws to residents across the province, working with both the national government and municipalities to ensure that citizens have access to essential services and facilities.
Fields Covered by the Bursary
The NCPG Transversal Bursary will fund studies in scarce and critical skills fields and hard-to-fill vacancies in both the public and private sector.
👉 Priority will be given to STEM fields: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Bursary Coverage Value
The bursary provides funding for registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed books, and accommodation.
Funding is allocated according to household income:
- R0 – R350 000 per annum: up to R120 000
- R350 001 – R550 000 per annum: up to R100 000
- R550 001 – R800 000 per annum: up to R80 000
❌ The bursary does not cover outstanding or pre-existing study debt.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be unemployed.
- Reside within the Northern Cape province.
- Be between 18 and 30 years old.
- Be in Matric (2025) or have completed Matric.
- Be studying or intending to study towards an undergraduate or first degree in one of the approved fields.
- Be registered/accepted at a public tertiary institution in South Africa.
- Have a strong academic record.
- Be financially needy (preference to academically deserving, financially needy students).
Required Documents
Applicants must submit certified copies of the following (not older than 6 months):
- South African ID document.
- Matric results (if currently in Matric).
- Matric certificate (if completed).
- Latest academic results/transcripts (if studying).
- Proof of acceptance/provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution.
- Proof of registration at a tertiary institution.
- Curriculum plan of intended field of study.
- Proof of parents’/guardians’/spouse’s income, bank statements, tax certificates, SASSA slips (if applicable).
- Supporting affidavits or documents (for unemployed parents, single parents, foster care, orphans, etc.).
