NPA Aspirant Prosecutor Training Programme 2026 Now Open for Applications

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) invites eligible South African LLB graduates and final-year students to apply for the Aspirant Prosecutor Training Programme 2026/2027. This is a 12-month paid training programme designed to equip aspiring legal professionals with the skills and experience to become fully qualified prosecutors.

About the NPA Training Programme 2026/2027

The Aspirant Prosecutor Programme offers intensive practical training to individuals who have completed their LLB degree or will complete it before March 2026. Successful candidates will undergo theoretical and on-the-job training aimed at preparing them for appointment as entry-level prosecutors in South Africa’s court system.

This programme forms part of the NPA’s national commitment to strengthen the justice system and ensure fair representation. Trainees will receive a monthly salary in the range of R252 855 – R292 596 per annum (LP-1 to LP-2) during the training period.

Who Can Apply?

To be considered for this programme, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens
  • Have completed or be in the final year of an LLB degree (or equivalent, accredited by SAQA)
  • Not have participated in Practical Vocational Training (PVT) for legal practitioners
  • Be able to demonstrate integrity, independence, and professionalism
  • Be available to start on 01 March 2026

Note: DOJ&CD and NPA employees may also apply if they meet all the requirements.


Application Process

Applications must be emailed to the relevant centre’s email address listed below. Only one centre application per applicant is allowed. Submit the following:

  1. A fully completed and signed Z83 form (new version, downloadable at www.dpsa.gov.za)
  2. A detailed CV outlining legal experience
  3. Final-year students must include latest academic transcript
  4. Certified copies of qualifications will only be required for shortlisted candidates

Important Notes

  • Submit your application by 04 August 2025 at midnight.
  • Only email applications will be accepted.
  • Submit to one centre only – duplicate submissions will result in disqualification.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to write an entry examination.
  • A maximum of 100 aspirant prosecutors will be appointed.
  • Successful candidates must accept the offer to start on 1 March 2026.
  • No relocation costs will be covered by the NPA.
  • Appointment is provisional until a security clearance is obtained.
