SANSOR Bursaries 2026

The South African National Seed Organization (SANSOR) is inviting students to apply for the SANSOR Bursary Programme 2026. Bursaries will be awarded to deserving postgraduate students pursuing research in the seed industry.

About the Bursary Programme

The SANSOR bursary is aimed at supporting postgraduate degree studies (Honours, Masters, or Doctorate) within fields related to the seed industry. The programme seeks to promote high-quality scientific research in disciplines that align with the organisationโ€™s mission.

Eligible Fields of Study

Funding will be provided for research in the following areas:

  • Agronomy
  • Biotechnology
  • Entomology
  • Genetics
  • Horticulture
  • Molecular Plant Biology
  • Pasture Science
  • Plant Breeding
  • Plant Pathology
  • Plant Physiology

What the Bursary Covers

  • The bursary is awarded based on academic merit.
  • Funding is provided for 1 academic year, with the possibility of renewal depending on performance.
  • Payments are made directly into the studentโ€™s university account in two tranches.
  • In addition to financial assistance, recipients will benefit from:
    • Workshops to develop employability skills.
    • Field trips to seed companies for practical industry exposure.
    • Networking opportunities with professionals in the seed sector.

Applicants who do not receive feedback should consider their application unsuccessful.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens (by birth).
  • Have completed an undergraduate degree.
  • Be registered for a postgraduate degree (Honours, Masters, or Doctorate) in 2026 within the seed industry.
  • Be enrolled at a recognised South African tertiary institution.
  • Conduct research that aligns with SANSORโ€™s mission and vision.
  • Not be receiving any other government funding (must disclose if any other funding is received).

  2. Submit the form along with the following supporting documents (certified where required):
    • ID document
    • Degree certificate (if available)
    • Gantt chart (study timeline)
    • Academic transcripts (on institution letterhead)
