Sasol invites South African students to apply for the Mainstream Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year.

Bursary Overview

The Sasol Mainstream Bursary Programme 2027 offers a comprehensive funding package for students pursuing full-time university studies in engineering and science fields.

The bursary includes:

  • Full financial support (tuition, accommodation, etc.)
  • Developmental support and mentorship
  • Possible employment through Sasol’s Graduate Development Programmes

⚠️ Note: This bursary includes a workback/payback obligation after completion of studies.


Fields of Study

Undergraduate (BEng / BSc)

Applicants may study the following:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Chemistry (up to Honours level required)
  • Geology (up to Honours level required)
  • Data Science (Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research)

Undergraduate (BEng Tech)

  • Mine Surveying (University of Technology only)

Postgraduate (MSc / MEng / PhD)

Fields include:

  • Chemical Engineering (Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Process Modelling, etc.)
  • Chemistry (Catalysis, Polymer Science, Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry)
  • Cyber Security
  • Data Science (Applied Mathematics, Statistics)

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be under 30 years of age
  • Intend to study full-time at a recognised South African university
  • Have strong academic results

⚠️ Important:

  • Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) is required
  • No distance learning (e.g., UNISA not accepted)
  • Only degree programmes (no diplomas)

Important Conditions

  • Only one application per applicant is allowed
  • Applications must be submitted online only
  • Incorrect or incomplete information will result in disqualification
  • Selection is highly competitive
  • Bursaries are awarded based on academic performance and Sasol business needs

  • Academic results (Grade 11 or latest results)
  • Certified ID copy
