About the Client Coverage Internship Programme 2026

The Client Coverage Internship Programme offers penultimate-year students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience within Standard Chartered’s Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) function.

Interns will collaborate across teams to:

  • Solve real business challenges
  • Identify opportunities for clients
  • Deliver sustainable financial solutions
  • Gain exposure to global banking operations

The programme is designed to build skills, networks, and career pathways, with many interns progressing into graduate roles.


Programme Structure

The internship includes:

  • 10-week summer internship
  • Structured induction and orientation
  • Classroom learning on products and business platforms
  • On-the-job training and technical seminars
  • Mentorship from managers and senior professionals
  • Networking events with senior leaders
  • Opportunities to contribute to community initiatives

Where You Could Work

Interns will be placed in one of the following teams:

Corporate Coverage

Partnering with multinational, local, and middle-market clients to deliver tailored banking solutions including:

  • Cash management
  • Trade financing
  • Lending
  • Capital markets
  • Advisory services

Financial Institutions Coverage

Working with clients across:

  • Banking
  • Insurance
  • Asset management
  • Public sector
  • Private equity

The team delivers financing, risk management, cash and securities, and investment solutions.


Internship Roles

Assistant Relationship Manager

  • Support Senior Relationship Managers
  • Coordinate deals and client engagements
  • Assist in account planning and business approvals
  • Identify sales and business development opportunities

Credit Analyst

  • Support risk management and deal structuring
  • Conduct credit, financial, and industry analysis
  • Understand CIB product structures
  • Learn about environmental, sustainability, and reputational risks

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be penultimate-year university students
  • Be available to intern in June 2026
  • Be able to start full-time in July 2027
  • Have strong academic performance
  • Demonstrate extracurricular involvement
  • Have permanent legal right to work in South Africa
  • Possess analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Be adaptable, resilient, and team-oriented
