Afrisun KZN trading as Sun Sibaya is offering 12-month accredited learnership programmes aimed at equipping unemployed youth with recognised qualifications in the gaming industry. These programmes form part of Sun International’s commitment to South Africa’s national skills development agenda.

Both programmes provide workplace exposure and formal training, leading to nationally recognised NQF qualifications.


1️⃣ Gaming Operation Learnership (Cashier)

Qualification Outcome: National Certificate in Gaming Operations (NQF Level 4)

Programme Overview

This accredited programme provides unemployed youth with a National Certificate in Gaming Operations. Learners will gain practical experience in casino cashiering and gaming operations, improving their employability within the hospitality and gaming sector.

The nature of the role requires working in both smoking and non-smoking environments.

Key Duties

  • Check work area and equipment readiness
  • Ensure cleanliness of assigned station
  • Clear slot machines during count days
  • Conduct daily counts
  • Capture data into systems
  • Report suspicious transactions
  • File documentation
  • Deliver warm and professional guest service

2️⃣ Gaming Operation Learnership (Slots – Technical & Floor Assistant)

Qualification Outcome: National Certificate in Gaming Technical & Floor Assistant (NQF Level 3)

Programme Overview

This programme provides a qualification in Gaming Technical & Floor Assistant operations. Learners will gain hands-on exposure to electronic gaming machines (EGMs), technical servicing, and floor support operations.

Key Duties

  • Assist guests with queries
  • Clean and service gaming equipment
  • Replace and test minor components (card readers, keypads, screens, note acceptors)
  • Maintain workshop safety and cleanliness
  • Secure and store equipment
  • Assist with signage, cashiering equipment, and promotional materials

Minimum Requirements (Both Programmes)

Applicants must:

  • Have a Matric certificate or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
  • Have a valid South African ID
  • Have passed English
  • Be able to work shifts
  • Be able to work in smoking areas
  • Be physically able to stand for long periods
  • Be physically able to move machines and handle tools
  • Have sound interpersonal skills
  • Be well-presented and self-motivated

  • Meet requirements for a gaming licence (subject to KZN Gaming Board approval)

  • Appointment is subject to KwaZulu-Natal Gaming Board licensing.
  • Completion of the learnership does NOT guarantee permanent employment.
  • Preference will be given to designated groups in line with the Employment Equity Act.
