Transnet Corporate Centre invites South African unemployed youth to apply for the Apprentice: Boilermaker Programme 2025 (Reference: req3829).

Apprenticeship Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
This apprenticeship prepares aspiring artisans to become fully competent boilermakers through structured theoretical learning and hands-on practical training.
Position Purpose
The Transnet Boilermaker Apprenticeship aims to develop apprentices who can operate independently and productively as qualified artisans. Successful candidates will learn to:
- Plan and prepare work sites
- Manufacture and assemble components
- Inspect and commission installations
- Modify and repair equipment and structures
- Apply theoretical and practical skills in various industrial contexts
Position Outputs
By the end of the apprenticeship, trainees are expected to demonstrate the ability to:
- Plan and prepare tools, equipment, materials and work sites
- Use hand, power and measuring tools safely and effectively
- Install, assemble, fit and connect components
- Test, inspect, maintain, commission and repair assemblies and systems
- Apply trade-specific knowledge in real workplace situations
Qualifications and Experience
To qualify, applicants must meet ONE of the following:
1. N2 Minimum Subjects
- Mathematics (Pure)
- Engineering Science
- Plating & Structural Drawing
- Engineering Drawing (Draughting)
- Metal Worker’s Theory
- Plater’s Theory
2. N3 – N6 Subjects
- Mathematics (Pure)
- Engineering Science
- Plating & Structural Drawing
- Engineering Drawing (Draughting)
- Mechanotechnology
3. NCV Level 4
Fundamentals:
- English (FAL)
- Mathematics
- Life Orientation
Vocational subjects:
- Engineering Process

4. Technical Grade 12
- Mechanical Technology (Welding & Metal Work)
