Transnet SOC Ltd, through Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the Sector Specific Trainee Programme 2026. This structured 12-month training programme is aimed at developing a pipeline of skilled operators for key operational roles within Transnet Port Terminals.

The programme is open at Ngqura and East London ports in the Eastern Cape, with preference given to applicants residing in the respective local municipalities.

The Sector Specific Trainee Programme is designed to provide learners with hands-on operational training aligned to port terminal operations. Trainees will be placed according to academic background, career aspirations, and operational requirements, while being exposed to real port environments and equipment.

Key Responsibilities (Training Outputs)

Successful trainees will be trained to:

  • Perform daily operational tasks per assigned equipment
  • Handle cargo and commodities according to operational requirements
  • Complete logbooks and report equipment defects
  • Use data terminals and maintain radio communication
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify defects
  • Report incidents, accidents, and daily operational occurrences
  • Operate safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers)
  • Adhere strictly to terminal safety policies and procedures
  • Operate the terminal operating system (Navis)
  • Follow on-screen instructions and acknowledge completed tasks

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric (Essential)
  • TVET N6 in Logistics or Transport (Advantageous)
  • Valid Code EB Driver’s Licence (Compulsory)
