Transnet invites unemployed South African youth and qualifying TVET College and engineering students to apply for the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme 2026 / 2027 at various locations across South Africa.

Transnet Corporate Centre is offering Work Integrated Learning opportunities aimed at students and recent graduates who need practical workplace experience.

The programme combines structured workplace exposure, mentorship and on-the-job learning to help participants apply their academic knowledge in a real working environment.

Work Integrated Non-Technical Learner

Programme Duration: 18 months

This programme is aimed at students who have completed their theoretical studies and require practical workplace exposure.

Applicants should have:

  • Matric or equivalent.
  • Completed N4-N6 theoretical subjects at a TVET College.
  • Relevant studies in Human Resources or Financial Management.
  • South African citizenship.
  • Age between 18 and 35.
  • No bursary obligation with another company.

Preference will be given to people with disabilities.

  • BEng Tech or S4-S5.
  • Completed all theoretical coursework in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • South African citizenship.

  • A recent confirmation or letter from the institution.

Position Purpose

The Transnet WIL Programme is designed to provide practical workplace experience and improve participants’ employability.

Successful learners will gain hands-on exposure, workplace mentorship and experience linked to their field of study.

Key Responsibilities

Participants may be required to:

  • Assist with projects within a department or work-stream.
  • Perform operational tasks under supervision.
  • Support administrative functions.
  • Prepare documentation and reports.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops.
  • Participate in mentorship programmes.
  • Shadow experienced employees.
  • Assist with problem-solving activities.
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide updates on assigned work.
  • Assist with market research and data collection.
  • Prepare reports and presentations.
  • Support process improvement initiatives.
