About the Work Integrated Technical Learner Programme

The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme is designed to provide practical workplace experience to students who require experiential training to complete their qualifications.

The programme aims to:

  • Bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice
  • Improve employability through hands-on training
  • Provide mentorship and industry exposure
  • Develop professional and technical competencies

Successful candidates will be placed within Transnet Corporate Centre under the Youth Development division.


Position Purpose

The Work Integrated Technical Learner will:

  • Apply academic knowledge in a real-world environment
  • Gain industry-specific experience
  • Develop analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Participate in mentorship and structured development programmes

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in departmental projects and work-streams
  • Perform routine operational tasks under supervision
  • Support documentation and reporting processes
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops
  • Shadow experienced professionals
  • Conduct market research, data collection and analysis
  • Prepare reports and presentations using MS Office tools
  • Support process improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and safety regulations
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must:

  • Be University of Technology students
  • Have completed all theoretical subjects (S4/S5) in:
    • Electronics Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
  • Be South African citizens
  • Be under the age of 35 (preference)
  • Have no bursary obligation
  • Provide a recent confirmation letter from the institution
  • Submit certified copies of:
    • Matric certificate
    • Academic record
    • South African ID

Preference will be given to South African youth and persons with disabilities.
