What Is Work Integrated Learning (WIL)?

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is a compulsory practical component of the TVET qualification pathway in South Africa.

After completing theoretical studies from N1 to N6, students must complete 18 months of approved workplace experience before they can be awarded their National Technical Certificate (N6 Diploma).

This structured WIL programme allows students to gain workplace experience under proper supervision, ensuring compliance with DHET standards.

Fields of Study Covered

The 2026 WIL Programme is open to students who have completed:

  • Tourism N6
  • Hospitality N6

These fields fall under the Services SETA scope, covering industries such as:

  • Travel and tourism
  • Accommodation services
  • Food and beverage
  • Hospitality management
  • Related service industries

Only students who have completed their N6 qualification in Tourism or Hospitality are eligible to apply.
