uMngeni-uThukela Water invites unemployed South African youth to apply for its Water and Waste Water Treatment Learnership Programme 2025–2026.

About the Learnership Programme
The National Certificate in Water and Waste Water Treatment (NQF Level 2) is designed to give 20 qualifying candidates the opportunity to gain in-demand skills and work experience in water treatment. Candidates will complete classroom training, workplace practicals, and a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) over the one-year period.
This programme is supported by uMngeni-uThukela Water’s Training and Development Department and the Operations Division.
Who Should Apply?
You qualify to apply if you:
- Are unemployed
- Have completed Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science
- Are aged 18–35 years
- Reside in the deep rural areas of uMkhanyakude District or uMzinto District Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal
- Have not completed any qualification at NQF Level 5 or above
- Are a person living with a disability (encouraged to apply)
Requirements
Applicants must submit the following:
- Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Certified Matric certificate with Mathematics and Physics
- Certified mid-term school report (must be from the same district of residence)
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Motivation letter from the student
- Proof of physical address: A letter from the Traditional Authority Office (for village residents)
- Affidavit stating unemployment status
Note: Proof of residence will be verified with the Traditional Authority Office. Submitting false information will result in disqualification.
Duties and Learning Activities
- Attend theoretical training sessions
- Complete workplace-based learning at Richards Bay and Jozini Water Treatment Plants
- Compile a Portfolio of Evidence
- Follow all learnership guidelines and complete required assessments
