University of Mpumalanga (UMP) 2026: APS Requirements for All Undergraduate Courses

What Is APS?

Your APS is calculated from your NSC Grade 12 results using seven subjects. The APS achievement rating of Life Orientation is halved in the final score. Some programmes may accept Mathematical Literacy, while others require pure Mathematics.

Commerce & Administration

  • Bachelor of Commerce (General) – APS: 30 (Mathematics required)
  • Bachelor of Administration – APS: 32
  • Diploma in Hospitality Management – APS: 24 (Maths) or 25 (Math Lit)

Agriculture & Natural Sciences

  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture – APS: 30
  • Bachelor of Agriculture in Agricultural Extension & Rural Resource Management – APS: 26 (Maths) or 28 (Math Lit)
  • Diploma in Animal Production – APS: 24 (Maths) or 27 (Math Lit)
  • Diploma in Agriculture in Plant Production – APS: 23 (Maths) or 24 (Math Lit)
  • Diploma in Nature Conservation – APS: 30

ICT & Technology

  • Bachelor of ICT – APS: 32 (Mathematics required)
  • Diploma in ICT in Applications Development – APS: 24
  • Higher Certificate in ICT in User Support – APS: 20 (Maths) or 22 (Math Lit)

Science & Environmental Studies

  • Bachelor of Science Degree – APS: 30
  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science – APS: 30
  • Bachelor of Science in Forestry – APS: 30

Event & Tourism Management

  • Higher Certificate in Event Management – APS: 19 (Maths) or 21 (Math Lit)

Notes on Subject Requirements

  • Most programmes require English at Level 4 (Home Language or First Additional Language).
  • For science and agriculture programmes, subjects like Life Sciences, Physical Science, and Agricultural Science are often required or recommended.
  • Mathematical Literacy is not accepted for some programmes like BCom and BSc.
