About the Valterra Platinum Learnership Programme 2026

Valterra Platinum is offering an Engineering Learnership Programme (18.2 Unemployed) designed to provide candidates with both theoretical and practical training in the mining industry.

This programme combines:

  • Off-the-job training
  • Workplace experience

Successful completion of the programme will lead to a nationally recognised Artisan qualification, opening doors to long-term careers in engineering and mining.


Available Learnership Opportunities

The following trades are available:

  • Fitter
  • Boilermaker Plater
  • Electrician
  • Instrument Mechanician
  • Millwright
  • Welder

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following:

Option 1:

  • Grade 12 / Matric with:
    • Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
    • Physical Science
    • English
  • Minimum 40% pass in all subjects

OR Option 2:

  • N2 or higher qualification with relevant subjects for the chosen trade

Mechanical Fitter

  • Fitting Trade Theory / Mechanotechnology / Mechanotechnics
  • Engineering Drawings
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science

Boilermaker

  • Plating & Structural Steelwork / Welders Theory
  • Structural Drawings
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science

Electrical

  • Electrical Trade Theory / Electrotechnology
  • Industrial Electronics / Engineering Drawings
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science

Instrument Mechanician

  • Instrument Trade Theory / Industrial Instrument
  • Industrial Electronics
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science

Millwright

  • Electrical Trade Theory / Electrotechnology
  • Fitting Trade Theory
  • Industrial Electronics / Engineering Drawings
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science

Welder

  • Plating & Structural Steelwork / Welders Theory
  • Structural Drawings
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science

Alternatively, applicants may have NCV Level 4 in the relevant trade with all subjects passed at a minimum of 40%.

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Certified copies of all relevant qualifications
  • Certified copy of South African ID
  • Proof of residence (required for applicants from host communities, stamped by a tribal office or municipality)
