VUT Admission / Entry Requirements for Management Sciences

Your admission to Vaal University of Technology (VUT) for Faculty of Management Sciences is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements / APS for your chosen qualification. If you don’t meet these requirements, you may want to consider alternative qualifications or possibly, if you qualify, an extended programme (refer to the college admission requirements), enabling you to register for limited modules in your first year.

Here are the VUT General Admission Requirements for Faculty of Management Sciences:

A. Diploma in Logistics (NQF 6)

1. Senior Certificate

A minimum rating of E (40-49%) for HG and D (50-59%) for SG subjects. English and Mathematics are compulsory. A total of 24 on the Swedish scale is required.

2. N3-N6

A completed N6 in a Logistics/Supply Chain Management related field. Exemption may be awarded for some equivalent diploma subjects.

3. NASCA

A completed National Senior Certificate for Adults with a minimum rating of 4 (50-59%) per subject except for English and Quantitative Literacy which should be rated a 5 (60-69%)

4. International qualifications

All international qualifications will be evaluated by the International Office based on the Swedish scale.

5. Transfers

Applications from students to transfer from other institutions will be dealt with in terms of the Recognition of Prior Learning and Continuation of Studies policies of VUT.

B. B Tech: Logistics

A completed ND: Logistics or equivalent with an aggregate of 60% is required.

C. M Tech Logistics:

65% average for a completed BTech or equivalent qualification in either Logistics or any other related discipline. 65% for Research Methodology on NQF 7. Successful achievement of the Faculty selection criteria

D D Tech: Business

A completed M Tech: Logistics or equivalent qualification. Draft proposal should be submitted for approval before registration.

2. Senior Certificate (SC)

A minimum rating of E (40-49%) for HG and D (50-59%) for SG subjects. English and Accounting are compulsory. Accounting must have a minimum rating of C on SG and D on HG. A total of 25 on the Swedish scale is required for the Diplomas in Cost and Management Accounting and Internal Auditing and 26 for the Diploma in Financial Information Systems.

3. N3-N6

A completed N6 in an Accounting related field. Exemption may be awarded for some equivalent diploma subjects. The course must include Accounting. Applied Accounting is not accepted.

4. NASCA

Not accepted as it does not include Accounting.

5. International qualifications

All international qualifications will be evaluated by the International Office based on the Swedish scale.

6. Transfers

Applications from students to transfer from other institutions will be dealt with in terms of the Recognition of Prior Learning and Continuation of Studies policies of VUT.

B. BTech: COST AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING/ FINANCIAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS/ INTERNAL AUDITING

60% average for major (level 1-3) subjects of a completed ND with at least 300 credits for theory or equivalent qualification in COST AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING/FINANCIAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS/ INTERNAL AUDITING. The ND has to be in the same discipline as the intended BTech.

C. Master of Management in COST AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING

65% average for a completed PGD or equivalent qualification in COST AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING. 65% average for Research Methodology and Management Accounting. Successful achievement of the Faculty selection criteria.

D. MTech in COST AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING

65% average for a completed BTech or equivalent qualification in COST AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING. 65% for Research Methodology on NQF 7 and Management Accounting. Successful achievement of the Faculty selection criteria.

E. DTech in Business (COST AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING)

A relevant master’s degree in a related discipline. Approval of research proposal by FRIC Exco.

B. BTech: Human Resource Management/Human Resource Development/Labour Relations Management (NQF 7)

60% average for major (level 1-3) subjects of a completed ND with at least 300 credits for theory or equivalent qualification in Human Resource Management/Human Resource Development/Labour Relations Management or relevant discipline

C. BTech: Business Administration (NQF 7)

60% average for a completed ND or equivalent qualification in a business related field. Applicants with a non-business related qualification should have 1 year business related work experience.

D. MTech: Human Resource Management /Labour Relations Management (NQF 8)

65% average for a completed BTech or equivalent qualification in HRM/LRM or related discipline. 65% for Research Methodology on NQF 7. Successful achievement of the Faculty selection criteria

E. Master of Management in Human Resource Management (NQF 9)

65% average for a completed Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent qualification on NQF 8 in HRM or related discipline. 65% average for Research Methodology and Research Project is also required. Successful achievement of the Faculty selection criteria

F. MTech: Business Administration (NQF 8)

65% average for a completed BTech or equivalent qualification in Business Administration or related discipline. 65% for Research Methodology on NQF 7. Successful achievement of the Faculty selection criteria.

G. D Tech: Business (NQF 8)

A completed Master’s degree with a research component in the discipline. Candidates intending to enrol for the D Tech: Business should possess a draft proposal according to VUT research proposal guidelines and undergo a selected based panel interview.

H. PhD in Business Administration (NQF 10)

A relevant master’s degree in a related discipline. Approval of research proposal by Faculty Research Committee.

C. MTech: Marketing

65% average for a completed BTech or equivalent qualification in Marketing or related discipline. 65% for Research Methodology on NQF 7. Successful achievement of the Faculty selection criteria. Marketing: A complete B Tech: Marketing or equivalent qualification. Draft proposal should be submitted for approval before registration. Prospective students must have obtained an aggregate of a minimum of 65% in the B Tech and must have passed Marketing Research IV, Excellent analysis skills.

D. Master of Management: Marketing

65% average for a completed Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent qualification on NQF 8 in Marketing or related discipline. 65% average for Research Methodology and Research Project is also required. Successful achievement of the Faculty selection criteria

E. DTech: Marketing

A relevant master’s degree on NQF 8/9 in a related discipline. Approval of research proposal by FRIC Exco. : A complete M Tech: Marketing or equivalent qualification. Draft proposal should be submitted for approval before registration. Prospective students must have obtained an aggregate of a minimum of 65% in the M Tech. Excellent analysis skills. Candidates may be required to subject themselves to a colloquium to establish their understanding of their chosen topic and extent of research knowledge prior to approval and acceptance.

F. Doctor of Commerce: Marketing

A relevant master’s degree in a related discipline. Approval of research proposal by FRIC Exco. :
