Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd is recruiting and invites applications for the 2023 Learnership: Health Promotion Officer [x20 posts].
Location: Jabulani Dlab Precinct, 0229 Isikwama Street, Jabulani, Soweto.
Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd is a wholly armed subsidiary of the University of the Witwatersrand.
The Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (WHC) is wholly-owned by the University of the Witwatersrand.
We are the support operation through which the University – primarily its Faculty of Health Sciences – conducts research, manages donor-funded activities, pursues entrepreneurial innovation in health and supports clinical trials.
The duration of a Leamership is twelve (12) months.
LEARNERSHIP DESCRIPTION
The “Wits Health Hubb” (WHH) programme aims to provide meaningful professional work experience, training, and qualification in the healthcare space for formerly unemployed youth: to activate health consciousness and personal wellbeing amongst youth: and to expand community access to healthcare.
At the end of 12 – months trainees will obtain an NQF, level 3. Health Promotion Officer (HPO) qualification (SAQA ID 110: 94597).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Carrying out basic health assessments for households in Soweto.
Providing basic health education and referrals for a lirnited range of services.
Supporting and assisting in navigating the health and social services system.
Gathering research data for national and international studies.
Taking measurements of vital signs in adults: temperature. pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, and anthropometry.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements for the application Youth:
- 18 – 29 years old Residing in Soweto
- Matric
- Basic Computer Literacy
Additional requirements
- Not currently in employment, education, or training.
- Learners must be wiling to commit for the full duration of the programme.
- Learners must be adequality mobile to execute work within the Community.
- Learners must have adequate visual and hearing capacity to master the envisaged skills.
- Previous experience in health, counselling or community work is advantageous but not a requirement.
