How to Apply
To apply for a degree at Wits University for 2026, head to the official application portal at www.wits.ac.za/applications/. Keep in mind that you can apply for a maximum of three programmes. Don’t worry about the order of preference—this doesn’t impact your chances of being accepted into any programme.
Here are a few things to remember when applying:
- Meet Admission Requirements: Make sure you meet the specific admission requirements for the programme you’re applying to. Each faculty and degree may have unique prerequisites, so double-check before submitting your application.
- Accurate Personal Information: Enter your full names as they appear on your ID book/card or passport. Avoid using initials or nicknames to prevent any delays or confusion in your application.
- Be Strategic with Programmes: If you’re applying for two programmes within one faculty, it’s highly recommended to apply for a third programme from a less restricted faculty, such as Humanities, Commerce, or Science. This can increase your chances of being admitted.
- Keep Your Options Open: Particularly if you’re applying to highly competitive faculties like Health Sciences or Engineering, try to keep your study options as broad as possible. Being open to alternative pathways can enhance your chances.
- Program Duration: Do not enter the duration of your programme during your application. As a first-year student, you’ll simply be applying to begin your studies—leave the rest to Wits University.
- POPI Act Compliance: In line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you must complete the application process yourself. The university will not accept applications from third-party agents.
