Sappi Engineering Bursary Programme 2027
Sappi offers undergraduate bursaries to qualifying students who want to study Engineering or Forestry Science degrees at supported South African universities.
The bursary may cover tuition fees, books, accommodation and a living allowance.
The actual value of the bursary awarded depends on the applicant’s household income.
Fields of Study
Sappi bursaries are available for the following degree programmes:
- Chemical Engineering โ BSc or BEng
- Civil Engineering โ BSc or BEng
- Electrical Engineering โ BSc or BEng
- Forestry and Wood Science โ BSc
- Industrial Engineering โ BSc or BEng
- Mechanical Engineering โ BSc or BEng
- Mechatronics Engineering โ BSc or BEng
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be South African citizens between the ages of 17 and 25 years.
Candidates must have completed Matric or currently be in Matric.
Applicants must have achieved more than:
70% for Mathematics
70% for Physical Science
and
60% for English
For learners currently in Matric, Grade 11 results may be used for these subject requirements.
Mathematical Literacy is not accepted in place of Mathematics.
Applicants must intend to study full time at a university supported by Sappi for the relevant Engineering studies.
Selection Preference
Preference will be given to applicants from communities surrounding Sappi operations, provided they meet the required academic criteria.

The level of financial assistance awarded depends on the student’s household income.
Vacation Work Opportunities
Sappi Engineering bursars may be given the opportunity to complete vacation work during:
July
and
December
each year.
This gives bursary recipients practical exposure to Sappi’s engineering and operational environment while completing their studies.
Engineer-in-Training Opportunity
Successful completion of the bursary-supported studies may provide entry into the Sappi Engineer-in-Training Programme.
This creates a potential pathway from university study into structured graduate development within Sappi.
