Sarah Baartman District Municipality Internship Programme 2026
The Sarah Baartman District Municipality, also known as SBDM, is inviting applications from unemployed graduates for its Municipal Internship Programme.
The programme forms part of the municipalityโs efforts to strengthen capacity building and provide support to local municipalities within the Sarah Baartman District.
Funding has been allocated to give unemployed graduates practical workplace training, relevant skills and professional experience in infrastructure development and community services.

Who May Apply?
The internship is aimed at unemployed graduates from historically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Applicants must strictly reside within one of the following local municipalities:
- Dr Beyers Naudรฉ Local Municipality
- Blue Crane Route Local Municipality
- Kouga Local Municipality
- Koukamma Local Municipality
- Makana Local Municipality
- Ndlambe Local Municipality
- Sundays River Valley Local Municipality
Applicants who do not reside in one of the listed municipalities may not be considered.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must have completed one of the following qualifications:
- BTech in Civil Engineering
- Degree in Civil Engineering
Candidates should provide certified copies of their academic qualifications when submitting their applications.
Areas of Training
Successful interns will receive practical training and workplace exposure in the following areas:
- Project management
- Construction
- Housing administration
- Infrastructure development
- Water sanitation and purification
- Roads and transport
The programme is designed to help graduates apply their academic knowledge in a municipal working environment while gaining experience in the planning and delivery of public infrastructure.
Internship Stipend and Contract
Successful candidates will be appointed on a two-year fixed-term contract.
The programme offers an all-inclusive stipend of R96 000 per annum.
Interns should note that the appointment is temporary and does not guarantee permanent employment with the municipality after the internship period.
