About the SBV Services Banking Learnerships 2026/2027
The SBV Services Cash Processor programme forms part of the YES4Youth initiative, which provides young people with workplace experience, skills development and opportunities to improve their employability.
Successful candidates will be appointed on a 12-month contract and gain practical experience in cash processing operations.
The programme is available at multiple SBV locations across South Africa.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Have Grade 12 with Mathematics;
- Be between 18 and 29 years old; and
- Must not have participated in the Banking Learnership previously.

Cash Processor Responsibilities
Successful candidates will perform various cash-processing duties during the programme.
Responsibilities include receiving deposits and updating transactions on the applicable systems while following company policies and procedures.
Cash Processors will also be responsible for checking containers or bags for damage or interference, acknowledging them on the applicable system, processing deposits according to agreed bank service-level agreements and standard operating procedures, and preparing workstations for efficient note counting.
Note Sorting and Reconciliation
Cash-processing responsibilities may include:
- Sorting prepared deposits and notes within required cut-off times;
- Sending rejected notes for verification and balancing;
- Reconciling rejected notes;
- Checking rejected notes for counterfeits, dye stains and damage;
- Performing cash transfers to vaults;
- Completing end-of-day cash balancing and reconciliation; and
- Handling shortages and surpluses according to applicable procedures.
Desktop Deposit Processing
Candidates may also be responsible for:
- Checking containers and bags for damage or tampering;
- Reporting anomalies to the Team Controller;
- Acknowledging containers or bags on the applicable system;
- Keeping deposits separate for each customer;
- Processing deposits on the day they are received;
- Processing and balancing deposits on the applicable system;
- Completing end-of-day reconciliation; and
- Accurately preparing cash for note counting.
Coin, Payroll and Change Processing
The role may involve processing bulk coin deposits in accordance with SBV policies and procedures and sorting and processing teller coin transfers.
For payroll and change transactions, candidates may be required to:
- Process transactions according to customer service-level agreements;
- Report discrepancies to the Team Controller;
- Prepare and seal floats as required;
- Process payroll entries within required timeframes;
- Report defective equipment; and
- Obtain bank authorisation before dispatching where required.
Bank System Integrated Deposit Processing
Responsibilities include validating transactions linked to system integrations according to bank requirements.
Candidates may also need to:
- Report account numbers that are not linked to the bank system;
- Verify deposit account numbers;
- Escalate system downtime or delayed batches; and
- Help prevent delays, losses or incorrect postings.
Prepack and Treasury Duties
Cash Processor learners may assist with:
- Packing and unpacking Bank and ATM cash;
- Managing consumables required for packing; and
- Confirming that bag and seal numbers are correctly recorded.
Learners must also use equipment according to SBV’s Standard Operating Procedures and take appropriate care of company assets.
