Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) invites parents and guardians to apply online for Grade 1 and Grade 8 admissions for the 2026 academic year. The online application system opens on Thursday, 24 July 2025, and closes on Friday, 29 August 2025.
This 37-day application window provides sufficient time for parents to submit necessary details and documents to secure placement for their children at schools within the province.
Important Notice: Register a New Profile
All parents and guardians must register a new profile for the 2026 application. Old login details or previously used profiles will not work. This ensures the system is reset and accurate for the current admissions cycle.
How Gauteng School Admissions Work
The GDE Online Admission system simplifies the school application process and allows parents to apply from anywhere. Here’s how it works:
1. Online Application
Complete your child’s application via the GDE admissions portal: https://gdeadmissions.gov.za
2. Registration
Create a new parent/guardian account and fill in all required personal information.
3. Address and Learner Info
Provide your home and/or work address, and input all necessary learner details (e.g., full name, birthdate, current grade).
4. Choose Schools
Select up to five preferred schools. Prioritise schools closest to your home or workplace to improve placement chances.
5. Upload Documents
Upload all required supporting documents electronically within the specified timeframe. If late applications are announced, some documents may be submitted directly to the schools.
Required Documents for Online Applications
Prepare the following documents before starting your application:
- Parent/Guardian’s ID or passport
- Child’s birth certificate or passport
- Proof of home address (e.g. utility bill, lease)
- Proof of work address (if used for placement criteria)
- Latest Grade 7 report (for Grade 8 applications only)
- Immunisation card (for Grade 1 applications only)
