About the Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary Programme 2026
The Sibona Ilanga Trust bursary aims to support students who live within a 50km radius of the De Aar Solar Power Plant by helping them further their studies in any field of study — whether pursuing a Degree, National Diploma, or NQF Level 6 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) qualification.
This bursary is part of the Trust’s commitment to education and community development, empowering young people in the De Aar area to build sustainable futures through education.
Fields of Study Covered
The bursary supports ANY field of study, including but not limited to:
- University Degrees
- National Diplomas
- NQF Level 6 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programmes
Expenses Covered
The bursary may cover the following costs (based on individual financial need):
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Examination fees
- Learning materials (e.g., textbooks and stationery)
- Accommodation (university residence or equivalent)
- Meals
The total value of the bursary will be determined according to the applicant’s financial circumstances.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must reside within a 50km radius of the De Aar Solar Power Plant in the Northern Cape.
- Must have been accepted to study at a recognised public or private tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology, or TVET College).
- Must be financially needy and lack sufficient resources to fund tertiary education.
Required Documents
Submit clear, certified copies of the following supporting documents along with your application:
- South African ID document.
- Proof of acceptance to a tertiary institution (on the institution’s official letterhead).
- Proof of residential address (confirming residence within 50km of De Aar Solar Power Plant).
