Astron Energy Bursaries 2026: Applications Now Open for Engineering Students

Astron Energy is inviting South African students to apply for their prestigious Astron Energy Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. This fully funded bursary is aimed at deserving Engineering students pursuing BSc or BEng degrees at accredited South African institutions.

Closing Date: 10 December 2025

This is an excellent opportunity for students who want to study full-time and require comprehensive financial support to complete their studies successfully.


Fields Covered by the Astron Energy Bursary

Bursaries will be awarded for Engineering Stream Degrees (BSc or BEng) in the following fields:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy and Light Current)
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering

Note: The bursary does NOT fund BEng Tech qualifications.


Expenses Covered by the Astron Energy Bursary

The Astron Energy Bursary provides full financial cover, including:

  • Tuition fees
  • Textbooks
  • Accommodation (on and off campus)
  • Meals
  • Monthly allowances

Additional Benefits of the Bursary

Recipients will also receive:

  • Continuous psycho-social support provided by Excel@Uni
  • Light-touch mentorship for personal and professional development
  • Access to the Work Readiness Programme
  • Private tutoring and academic support

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted by 31 January 2026. If you do not receive feedback by then, consider your application unsuccessful.

Successful students must sign a bursary agreement and commit to the work-back obligation after graduation (one year of work for every year funded).


Eligibility Requirements for the Astron Energy Bursary

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be under 35 years old
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must be studying or planning to study full-time towards a BSc or BEng Engineering degree
  • Must be entering final year of study in 2026 OR pursuing a one-year postgraduate qualification
  • Must be studying at a registered higher education institution in South Africa
  • Must have achieved a minimum average of 70% in the last full academic year
  • Must not be employed full-time
  • Must not be repeating the degree or qualification

Required Supporting Documents

Prepare the following certified documents (not older than 3 months):

  • Certified ID document
  • Full tertiary academic records
  • Latest academic transcript / institution report
  • University fee statement (include lease agreement if off-campus)
  • Proof of other bursaries or NSFAS (if applicable)
  • Parents’/guardians’ ID documents or death certificates
  • Signed parental consent form if under 18
  • Doctor’s letter & EEA1 form if disabled
  • Motivational letter (1–2 pages)
  • Comprehensive CV
