The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (KZN DARD) invites suitably qualified South African graduates to apply for 75 Assistant Agricultural Practitioner positions on a three-year fixed-term contract.

Salary

  • R193 359 per annum
  • Plus 37% in lieu of service benefits

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A three-year Diploma in Agriculture (NQF Level 6) or higher
  • Compulsory registration with SACNASP
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • No prior work experience required

Knowledge, Competencies and Skills

  • Knowledge of agricultural extension methodology
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic reporting and public speaking skills
  • Understanding of group dynamics
  • Ability to work directly with farmers and communities
  • Willingness to conduct physical farm and project visits

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will assist with:

  • Rendering general agricultural advice to internal and external clients
  • Supporting food security initiatives, agricultural projects, and land development programmes
  • Demonstration of farming methods and sustainable resource use
  • Conducting farm visits, extension surveys, and impact assessments
  • Assisting with the development of farm business plans
  • Organising farmer days, information sessions, and training activities
  • Establishing, reviving, and supporting agricultural projects and cooperatives
  • Capacity building, aftercare, and training facilitation
  • Promoting partnerships with agricultural stakeholders and organised agriculture
  • Maintaining farmer databases and extension records
  • Compiling and submitting monthly and quarterly reports
  • Ensuring compliance with Public Service prescripts and departmental policies
