This learnership is designed to develop future artisans by providing structured workplace training that leads to a Boilermaker Trade Test Certificate under the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA).
Programme Overview
The Engineering Learnership focuses on developing technical skills required to become a qualified boilermaker within the mining and refining sector.
Participants will receive practical training in an industrial environment at Impala Platinum Refineries.
The programme combines:
- Structured workplace training
- Technical skills development
- Artisan trade preparation
- Exposure to real mining and refinery operations
What You Will Learn
During the programme, learners will gain experience in:
- Structural steel fabrication and installation
- Maintenance and repair of plant equipment
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
- Fabrication techniques used in mining and refining plants
- Safe work practices in a production environment
This hands-on training prepares learners for long-term careers in engineering and the mining industry.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Completed N2 Certificate or NCV Level 4 in Boilermaking
N2 subjects must include:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Structural Steel Drawing
- Plater Trade Theory
Applicants must also:
- Demonstrate understanding of boilermaking trade principles
- Be medically fit to work at both BMR and PMR plants
