About the Shoprite Bursary Programme

The Shoprite Group Bursary Programme is designed to support students pursuing careers in high-demand fields within the retail and supply chain sectors.

Founded in 1979, Shoprite has grown into Africa’s largest retailer, operating thousands of stores across multiple countries. Through this bursary, the company invests in developing future professionals who will contribute to its continued growth.


Fields Covered

Bursaries will be awarded in the following study areas:

  • Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA) (10 bursaries)
  • Biological & Agricultural Sciences (10 bursaries)
  • Retail Business Management (60 bursaries)
  • Supply Chain & Logistics (10 bursaries)

Bursary Value

The bursary will cover:

  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed textbooks
  • Accommodation allowance

💰 Value: Between R30 000 and R60 000, depending on the course and institution


Work-Back Obligation

After completing your studies, bursary recipients will be required to work for Shoprite Group.

  • 1 year of work for each year of funding received

Minimum Requirements

General Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be 27 years old or younger
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must be studying at a recognised tertiary institution

Field-Specific Requirements

Accounting (CA Stream):

  • Studying BCom Accounting / BAcc (CA stream)
  • Entering 2nd–4th year or PGDA/CTA
  • Minimum 65% average
  • 65% in Accounting, Auditing, and Tax

Biological & Agricultural Sciences:

  • Studying Agriculture-related qualifications
  • Minimum 60% average

Retail Business Management:

  • Studying Diploma in Retail Business Management
  • Minimum 60% average

Supply Chain & Logistics:

  • Studying Logistics / Supply Chain / Operational Research
  • Minimum 60% average

Selection Process

  • Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 30 days after the closing date
  • Internal candidates may be given preference
  • If you do not receive feedback, consider your application unsuccessful

Step 3: Visit the link to the bursary you are applying for:

Economics

Step 4: submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed online application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Full tertiary academic record, including most recent results (on institutions letterhead)
