About the Dispensary Support Learnership Programme 2026

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering opportunities for Dispensary Support Learners to join its pharmacy team. The programme is designed for learners who want to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course while gaining workplace experience in a pharmaceutical environment.

The learnership combines theoretical training with practical workplace learning to help learners understand pharmaceutical dispensing, stock control, customer service, and healthcare support services.

Successful candidates will initially be employed on a fixed-term contract as Dispensary Support Learners. Permanent employment may be offered after qualifying and registering with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

Responsibilities

Learners will be expected to:

  • Sell Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines
  • Assist with unpacking and merchandising stock
  • Clean dispensary and OTC shelves
  • Interpret scripts accurately and professionally
  • Assist with medication picking, packing, labelling, and checking
  • Help manage medicine stock and expiry dates
  • Follow up with patients regarding scripts and appointments
  • Assist with call centre scripts and patient service calls
  • Promote health awareness and provide basic information to customers
  • Assist with chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorisations
  • Report stock shortages and stock errors
  • Receive dispensary stock according to company procedures

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Pure Mathematics
  • Physical Science or Life Science
  • Minimum average of 50%
