The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants is inviting students to apply for the Thuthuka Bursary for the 2027 academic year.
The bursary is aimed at students who want to pursue a career in Chartered Accountancy.
The Thuthuka Bursary supports qualifying students studying towards selected SAICA-accredited undergraduate accounting qualifications at participating universities in South Africa.

University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville Campus: Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, Course Code BCOM-C.
University of Pretoria: Accounting Sciences, Course Code 07130044.
University of Cape Town: BCom, Course Code CB024, or PGDA, Course Code CG010ACC01.
North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus: BCom CA, Course Code 5DAH01-E302.
University of the Witwatersrand: BAcc Science, Course Code CB008.

What the Bursary Covers
The SAICA Thuthuka Bursary may cover the following expenses:
Tuition fees.
Books.
Meals.
Residence fees.
Accommodation.
Additional Bursary Benefits
Bursary recipients may also receive academic support through enrichment programmes.
This may include additional tutorials, study skills workshops and other academic development support.
Students may also receive social and emotional support.
The bursary also provides work-readiness and life skills training.
Recipients may also receive mentoring and counselling support.
Students may have access to a dedicated programme manager and exposure to experienced chartered accountants and business leaders as mentors.
Bursary Contract
Successful bursary recipients will be required to sign a contract with the Thuthuka Education and Upliftment Fund and NSFAS.
Bursaries are awarded annually and renewal is at the discretion of the fund.
Selection Criteria
Candidates will be selected based on three main criteria:
Academic results.
Financial need as determined by the NSFAS financial means test.
National Benchmark Test results.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be South African citizens.
Applicants must be Black African or Coloured students.
Applicants must come from a disadvantaged background.
Applicants must be currently in Matric or must have completed Matric within the last two years.
Applicants must have achieved a minimum result of 60%, Level 5, for Mathematics in Grade 11.
Mathematics Literacy and Technical Mathematics will not be accepted.
Applicants must be studying or intending to study towards one of the listed qualifications in 2027.
Applicants must have applied or must be in the process of applying to study at one of the SAICA-accredited universities listed above.
Applicants must have a combined family income of not more than R350 000 per annum.
Applicants must have written or must write the National Benchmark Tests before the bursary closing date.

Latest payslips if employed.
Affidavit if unemployed.
Certified copies of ID documents or birth certificates of other dependents in the family household.
