About the City of Johannesburg Student Internship Programme 2026
The City of Johannesburg is offering a Student Internship opportunity through the Human Settlements Department.
This internship forms part of the Cityโs intervention to provide work-based training for students who need on-the-job exposure as a requirement for completing an academic qualification or obtaining experiential training after completing their studies.
The internship will run for a period not exceeding 18 months.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12, NQF Level 4
- National Diploma in Built Environment, NQF Level 6; and/or
- Bachelorโs Degree in Built Environment, NQF Level 7
- Confirmation letter from institution
- Must be a City of Johannesburg resident
- Must have never participated in an internship programme before
Only City of Joburg residents will be considered.
Primary Function
The successful intern will assist in the delivery of Human Settlements within the Cores of the City and the Corridors of Freedom.
The intern will also assist specialists in determining how plots of land and buildings should best be used within a community, and assist in project packaging and audits where required.

The successful intern will gain exposure in:
- Coordination of procedural requirements related to the delivery of human settlements
- Project facilitation and management
- Administrative support within the unit
- Project management support
- Data analysis and input for policy and guideline changes
- Interpretation and implementation of Human Settlements policies, legislation and acts

Applicants should have the following competencies:
- Computer literacy
