Nkangala District Municipality Bursary 2027
Nkangala District Municipality is offering bursaries for the 2027 academic year to qualifying students from within its municipal area.
The bursary is aimed mainly at undergraduate students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds who demonstrate financial need and intend studying full-time at a recognised public tertiary institution in South Africa.
The bursary will not cover outstanding student debt.
Fields of Study Covered
The bursary gives preference to undergraduate studies in the following fields:
- Architecture
- Civil Engineering
- Disaster Management
- Environmental Management
- Finance
- Information Technology Engineering, including Robotics and Software Development
- Law
- Mining Engineering
- Regional / Town Planning
- Social Sciences
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must be South African citizens between 17 and 35 years old.
They must reside within the Nkangala District Municipality area in Mpumalanga, including one of the following local municipalities:
Dr JS Moroka, Emakhazeni, Emalahleni, Steve Tshwete, Thembisile Hani or Victor Khanye.
Applicants must also come from a historically disadvantaged background.
Academic Requirements
Applicants must either be currently in Matric or have already completed Matric.
They must be studying or intend to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the approved fields at a recognised and accredited public institution in South Africa, including a university, university of technology or TVET college.
Students already enrolled at university must have achieved at least:
60% overall average for the 2026 academic year
Students enrolled at a TVET college must have achieved at least:
50% overall average for the 2026 academic year
Financial Need Requirement
Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
The total household income must not exceed:
R180,000 per year
Successful applicants must also agree to enter into a contractual agreement with the municipality.
Required Application Documents
Applicants must submit a completed bursary application form together with supporting documents, including certified identification, academic records, proof of household income and proof of residence.
Applicants currently in Matric should include their Grade 11 final results and latest Matric results, while those who have completed Matric should include their Matric certificate.
Current students should include their most recent academic record on the institution’s letterhead.
Applicants should also include proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution if available, as well as a motivational letter supporting their application.
