Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) invites qualifying South African undergraduate students to apply for the VWGA Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year.

Volkswagen Group Africa Bursary Programme 2027
The VWGA Bursary is for students who will be studying full-time during the 2027 academic year.
Applicants must be entering their second, third or fourth year of undergraduate study in 2027 at a DHET/CHE-accredited tertiary institution.
The bursary is not open to Master’s or Doctoral students.

What the VWGA Bursary Covers
The bursary may cover registration and tuition fees, accommodation, meals, books and stationery.
Successful bursars may also receive a laptop for study purposes.
Additional support may include vacation work, mentoring, development opportunities and extra study support where VWGA considers it appropriate.
Academic Requirements
Applicants must have achieved a Bachelor’s Pass in Grade 12 with a minimum average of 70%.
At tertiary level, applicants must have achieved a minimum overall average of:
65%
Applicants may also be required to participate in screening, shortlisting, interviews and psychometric assessments during the selection process.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must be South African-born citizens and must be registered or planning to register as full-time undergraduate students in 2027.
Candidates must be entering their second, third or fourth year.
Preference may be given to applicants from designated groups in line with VWGA’s transformation objectives and Employment Equity Plan.
Work-Back Obligation
Successful applicants will be required to sign a bursary agreement with Volkswagen Group Africa.
The agreement includes a work-back employment period at VWGA after completion of studies.
Applicants should therefore carefully read and understand the bursary terms and conditions before accepting an award.
If an applicant or bursary recipient is later found not to be studying full-time or to have paid employment contrary to the bursary conditions, VWGA may terminate the bursary and require repayment of benefits already paid.
Required Documents for All Applicants
Applicants must prepare:
- Certified copy of a valid South African ID.
- Motivation letter explaining why they want to join the VWGA Bursary Programme.
- Recent certified parent or guardian South African ID, or death certificate where applicable.
- Comprehensive CV.
- Completed online application form.
All certified documents must be less than three months old.
Where several documents are required for one upload section, they should be combined into a single file.
Additional Documents for Undergraduate Students
Students who have already been studying at tertiary level must provide certified full academic records for all years of tertiary study.
They must also provide the latest or June 2026 official academic transcript, a certified Matric certificate, 2026 official university fee statements and certified proof of 2026 registration.
Students staying in off-campus accommodation should include their lease agreement where applicable.
Where a required academic or registration document cannot be supplied because the applicant was not studying, the application instructions allow for a police affidavit explaining the circumstances.
Other Supporting Documents Where Applicable
Applicants already funded through another bursary or NSFAS should upload their bursary agreement, funding letter or offer.
Applicants with disabilities should provide the Department of Labour Employment Equity Act EEA1 form together with a diagnosis letter from a doctor.
A 2027 acceptance letter from an accredited institution may also be uploaded where available.
Documents Required if Provisionally Shortlisted
Applicants shortlisted for provisional acceptance may be required to submit a certified Matric certificate and a certified copy of their latest official academic transcript.
They will also need to provide 2027 proof of registration before the bursary can be awarded.
VWGA states that applicants must make provision for their initial registration costs because final bursary award is conditional on proof of registration.
Applicants Under 18
Applicants younger than 18 must submit a signed parent or legal guardian consent form together with a certified copy of the guardian’s identity document.
