Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) invites unemployed South African youth to apply for the three-year Apprenticeship Programme 2026 / 2027.

About the MISA Apprenticeship Programme
The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) Apprenticeship Programme is a three-year structured learnership programme designed to train unemployed young people to become qualified artisans.
The programme primarily targets unemployed youth from TVET colleges and accredited training institutions who have qualifications that allow them to enter specified artisan trades.
Successful applicants will undergo a combination of on-the-job and off-the-job training towards qualifying as artisans. Candidates selected for the 2026 / 2027 intake will be placed at participating host municipalities.
Applicants must indicate on their application the municipality where they would like to undertake their training.
Available Apprenticeships
MISA is offering apprenticeship opportunities in the following five trades:
Electrical Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Electrical 2026/01
Applicants must meet one of the relevant entry requirements, including:
- Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering with four subjects, including relevant trade theory.
- Technical trade theory programme quality assured by a SETA and considered equivalent to NQF Level 3.
- Relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3.
- Technical Grade 11 with Mathematics, Science, a language and relevant theory subject.
- Relevant N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma directly related to the trade.
Plumbing Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Plumbing 2026/02
Applicants may qualify with an appropriate N2 Engineering qualification and relevant trade theory, a SETA quality-assured technical programme equivalent to NQF Level 3, relevant Engineering NC(V), Technical Grade 11 or an appropriate N6/National Technical Diploma.
Bricklaying Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Bricklaying 2026/03
Applicants must possess an appropriate technical qualification relevant to the trade. Accepted routes include relevant N2 Engineering studies, qualifying SETA technical programmes, Engineering NC(V), Technical Grade 11 or an appropriate N6/National Technical Diploma.
Motor Mechanic Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Motor Mechanic 2026/04
Applicants may qualify through an appropriate N2 Engineering programme with relevant trade theory or another recognised technical route, including relevant Engineering NC(V), Technical Grade 11, N6 or a National Technical Diploma.
Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Diesel Mechanic 2026/05
Applicants must meet one of the specified technical entry requirements, which include:
- Technical Grade 12 with Mathematics; or
- Full N2 Engineering with relevant subjects and Diesel/Motor Trade Theory; or
- N3 Engineering with the relevant subjects and Diesel Mechanic Trade Theory.
Training and Placement
Successful candidates will enter a three-year training programme and receive practical workplace exposure at participating municipalities.
Applicants should select their preferred host municipality from the official list of participating municipalities and clearly indicate the municipality on the MISA application form.

Applications must include:
- Completed MISA application form.
- Correct reference number for the apprenticeship/trade.
- Name of the preferred participating municipality.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Certified copies of relevant qualifications.
- Certified copy of South African Identity Document.
- Proof of residential address.
- Release letter from the institution of higher learning, where applicable to learners who require Work Integrated Learning (WIL) to complete their qualification.

Important Notes
Applicants should ensure that all information and supporting documents submitted are accurate. Fraudulent qualifications or documentation will result in disqualification.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a medical fitness assessment. MISA also states that direct or indirect canvassing for preferential treatment will result in disqualification.
