Alfred Nzo District Municipality Invites South African Students to Apply for External Bursary Programme 2026

The Alfred Nzo District Municipality invites suitably qualified and financially needy students to apply for its External Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. The bursary is aimed at supporting scarce and critical skills to build capacity within the district while empowering youth from disadvantaged backgrounds.


About the Alfred Nzo District Municipality Bursary 2026

The Alfred Nzo District Municipality bursary supports students who intend to study at a recognised South African tertiary institution in fields aligned to the municipality’s development priorities. Successful bursary recipients will be required to enter into a contractual agreement with the municipality.

The municipality reserves the right to determine the number of bursaries awarded, depending on the available budget for the academic year.


Fields of Study Funded (Scarce and Critical Skills)

The bursary funds studies in the following fields:

  • BSc Environmental and Water Science
  • BSc Community Water Services and Sanitation
  • BSc Water Resource Management
  • National Diploma: Water and Science Technology
  • National Diploma: Marine Engineering
  • National Diploma: Civil Engineering
  • National Diploma or Degree: Town / Urban and Regional Planning
  • National Diploma or Degree: Disaster Management
  • National Diploma or Degree: Graphic Art / Design
  • National Diploma or Degree: Mechanical Engineering
  • National Diploma or Degree: Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechatronics)

Conditions of Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged individuals (proof required)
  • Must be residing within the Alfred Nzo District Municipality area of jurisdiction
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 35
  • Must be financially needy and academically deserving
  • Must intend to study in one of the listed fields at a recognised South African tertiary institution

Required Documents

Applicants must submit all of the following documents with the completed application form:

  • Motivation letter
  • Grade 12 certificate or latest results (for current Grade 12 learners)
  • Proof of enrolment or acceptance letter from a recognised tertiary institution
  • Certified copy of South African ID
  • Proof of residence from Ward Councillor
  • Parents’ proof of income or death certificate(s), or affidavit where applicable

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
