About Artscape Theatre Centre EPWP Intern Plumber 2026
Artscape Theatre Centre is inviting applications for the EPWP Intern โ Plumber (Graduate) opportunity.
The position forms part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), implemented by the agency for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS).
The successful graduate will support Artscapeโs Maintenance Department within the Plumbing sub-section.
Position Details
Position: EPWP Intern โ Plumber (Graduate)
Number of Posts: 1
Stipend: R243 per day
Contract Period: Date of assumption of duty until 31 March 2027
Duration: 8 months
Reporting to: Director Operations / Plumber
Purpose of the Internship
The graduate will form part of the Maintenance team and assist with plumbing maintenance and repairs.
The successful candidate will also assist in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, NHBRC standards and plumbing regulations.
Main Duties
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with repairs and preventative maintenance work on all plumbing systems in Artscape buildings
- Performing duties as specified within the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Plumbing Regulations and relevant legislation
- Assisting the Plumber in ensuring that Artscape infrastructure is always optimally available
Educational and Experience Requirements
Applicants must have:
- N3 or Grade 12 qualification or NTC 3 minimum
- Completed recognised Diploma or Degree
- Statement of results attached
- Certified Red Seal Plumber Artisan qualification
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Working knowledge of plumbing regulations, equipment and tools
Further Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Prepared to work overtime, including call-outs during weekends, public holidays and evening productions when required
- Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving ability
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and under supervision
- Must reside in the Western Cape
- Proof of address required
- Must be between 18 and 35 years old
- Must be articulate in at least two predominant languages of the Western Cape: English, Afrikaans or IsiXhosa
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have no criminal convictions or pending cases
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Strong written communication skills in English
- Creative thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong time management, planning and organisational skills
