City of Johannesburg Transport Internship Programme 2026
The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality is offering a Transport Revenue Internship within its Transport Department.
The internship is intended to provide students and graduates with practical workplace exposure in inventory management, cash management, revenue administration and banking.
Successful applicants will be placed in the Transport Finance Revenue section for a period not exceeding 18 months.

Internship Salary
The monthly salary will depend on whether the successful applicant has completed a qualification or is still enrolled as a student.
Applicants with a completed qualification
Applicants who have completed a qualification with at least 360 credits will receive:
R10 109.86 per month
This is a basic salary with no additional benefits.
Applicants who are still studying
Applicants who are currently enrolled as students will receive:
R4 951.88 per month
This is also a basic salary with no additional benefits.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Have completed Grade 12 at NQF Level 4.
- Have a degree or diploma in Accounting or a related field.
- The qualification must be at NQF Level 6 or NQF Level 7.
- No previous work experience is required.
- Applicants must reside within the City of Johannesburg.
- Applicants must not have participated in an internship programme before, unless the previous programme was unrelated to their field of study.
The internship is open to qualifying students and graduates from Johannesburg communities.
Purpose of the Internship
The internship will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to learn while assisting the Transport Finance Revenue section.
The intern will gain practical experience in:
- Inventory management.
- Revenue management.
- Cash management.
- Banking processes.
- Municipal financial controls.
- Audit support.
- Compliance with City policies.
- Compliance with Municipal Finance Management Act requirements.

The successful intern will assist the Revenue Officer with the following duties:
- Ensuring that cash sales processed at Rea Vaya stations are properly accounted for.
- Confirming that cash is banked correctly.
- Ensuring that all bank transactions are properly recorded.
- Assisting with the timely preparation of accounting information.
- Supporting accurate financial reporting.
- Helping manage inventory according to City policies and regulations.
- Assisting with the resolution of audit findings.
- Supporting the Cityโs efforts to achieve a clean audit.
- Maintaining accurate financial and supporting records.
- Assisting with revenue-related administrative duties.
