Columbus Stainless invites South African unemployed youth to apply for the Metal Manufacturing Learnership Programme 2026.

Learnership Location: Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Columbus Stainless is offering a 2-year Learnership Programme in Metal Manufacturing aimed at young individuals who are eager to gain technical skills and practical experience in the metals production industry.

Upon successful completion of the programme, learners will receive a MERSETA Metals Manufacturing Qualification (NQF Level 2), preparing them for potential employment in a metals production and manufacturing environment.


About the Learnership Programme

This learnership is designed to equip candidates with the technical skills and operational knowledge required in heavy engineering and metal manufacturing environments.

Learners will receive structured training and exposure to real industrial operations within Columbus Stainless in Middelburg, one of South Africa’s leading stainless steel manufacturers.


Minimum Requirements

To apply for this learnership, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 or N3 qualification
  • Mathematics (minimum 40%) OR Maths Literacy (minimum 60%)
  • Science (minimum 40%)
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must provide proof of residence within the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality
  • Must be medically fit for the training programme

Additional Advantages

The following will be considered advantageous:

  • Crane licence
  • Experience as an operator or mobile equipment operator
  • Experience with:
    • Overhead cranes
    • Front-end loaders
    • Mobile cranes
  • Experience in Heavy Engineering Manufacturing, Melting Mills, or Rolling Mills

Required Skills and Attributes

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Technical ability and good hand-eye coordination
  • Strong work ethic and discipline
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Motivation to become an equipment or process operator
  • Willingness to work shifts and overtime in a 24-hour operation
