Council for Geoscience (CGS) Bursaries 2023

Council for Geoscience (CGS) invites South African students to apply for Bursaries Programme 2023 academic year.

Bursary Application closing date  is 16 November 2022

The CGS hereby invites university students and Grade 12 learners to apply for a full-time CGS bursary for the 2023 academic year. The objective of the CGS bursary is to create, enhance and support expertise in the geosciences and related technical fields.

Eligibility

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Not be currently employed.
  • Be available for vocational work during studies and for work-back upon completion of studies, when required.
  • Planning to enrol full-time at a South African institution of higher learning for the 2023 academic year.
  • Either be enrolled for Grade 12 with both Mathematics and Physical Science as key subjects (for learners who are currently doing their Matric), or
  • Have completed Grade 12 with an achievement of Level 6 or higher in both Mathematics and Physical Science, and be a registered full-time student at a South African institution of higher learning (for learners who have completed their Matric).
  • Students currently at an institution of higher learning must have passed all the registered modules for the study period.

The CGS awards full-time bursaries in the following fields of study:

  • Geology
  • Engineering geology
  • Geophysics
  • Hydrogeology (focus on groundwater modelling)
  • Geochemistry
  • Economic geology
  • Geo-informatics
  • Remote sensing
  • Computational geosciences
  • Mineral economics
  • Mining seismology
  • Science communication.

NB: Only research topics defined by the CGS will be funded.

The bursary covers:

  • Registration and tuition fees
  • Accommodation and meals
  • Prescribed books
  • Excursions/research
  • Once-off laptop allowance for first-time bursars.

YOUR APPLICATION MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

  • Motivation letter
  • Updated CV
  • Certified copy of your identity document (ID)
  • A copy of your latest academic record
  • A copy of your Matric results (for learners who have completed their Matric)
  • A copy of your Grade 11 final and mid-year results (for learners who are currently doing their Matric)
  • Acceptance letter from the university.
