Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for effective enforcement of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002, as amended, and other relevant legislation.

They will detect, trace, detain and prosecute illegal foreigners within South Africa.

They will also process the deportation of illegal foreigners to their countries of origin.

Inspection and Investigation Duties

Successful candidates will provide support on law enforcement investigations and anti-corruption cases.

They will conduct inspections in loco with or without a warrant as allowed by law.

They will investigate transgressions of the Immigration Act, Refugees Act and other departmental legislation.

They will also enable prosecutions of transgressions under departmental legislation and the Criminal Procedure Act.

Court and Compliance Duties

Successful candidates may issue notices for transgressors to appear before the Director-General.

They will process and present evidence in court and departmental cases.

They may issue admission of guilt fines to transgressors.

They will also conduct interviews and investigations of foreigners suspected to be illegally in the country.

Detention and Deportation Duties

Successful candidates will process applications and extensions of detention warrants.

They will monitor records of all cases.

They will monitor the influx of foreigners residing in South Africa without legal documentation.

They will conduct arrests and deportation processes for illegal foreigners who are unwilling to leave the country voluntarily.

Law Enforcement Support

Successful candidates will participate in training sessions to improve their knowledge of detecting illegal foreigners and enforcing departmental legislation.

They will participate in law enforcement operations with other security cluster agencies.

They will provide expert evidence and statements to support law enforcement and crime-combatting investigations.

They will also keep records of legal and illegal foreigners in South Africa.
