About the Role
The successful apprentice will assist qualified mechanical artisans with the maintenance, installation and repair of machinery while gaining practical experience in an industrial working environment.
The programme will also support the apprentice in completing technical training towards becoming a qualified artisan.
Role Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Assisting with installation and assembly of mechanical equipment and machinery
- Helping to perform preventive maintenance on machines and mechanical systems
- Supporting technicians during machine breakdowns and repairs
- Assisting with dismantling, repairing and reassembling mechanical components
- Using tools and equipment such as spanners, grinders, drills and measuring tools
- Helping to inspect machines to identify wear, damage or mechanical faults
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and mechanical diagrams
- Lubricating and maintaining gears, bearings, pumps, conveyors and motors
- Maintaining clean and safe work areas according to safety regulations
- Following workplace health and safety standards
Experience and Skills Required
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Mathematics and Physical Science, recommended
- N2 to N6 Mechanical Engineering qualification
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and tools
- Ability to work in an industrial environment
