Gold One invites South African students to apply for the 2026 Bursary Programme.

Gold One New Shelf 1186 (Gedex) Operations, a leading gold mining company, is inviting students residing within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to apply for its 2026 Bursary Programme.
This initiative supports both external students (non-employees) and internal students (employees or their dependents) who wish to pursue tertiary studies in critical mining and technical disciplines.
A total of 31 bursaries will be awarded — 16 to external students and 15 to internal students — as part of Gold One’s continued investment in education, skills development, and community empowerment.
Fields of Study Covered
Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate qualifications in the following fields:
- Financial Studies
- Geological and Earth Sciences
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Science
- Mining Engineering
- Other related fields (for internal applicants only)
Gold One is particularly committed to funding students pursuing qualifications that align with the company’s operational and technical priorities.
Bursary Coverage
The Gold One Bursary will provide financial assistance for:
- Tuition fees
- Examination fees
- Prescribed textbooks
- University-administered accommodation for full-time students
Note: The bursary does not cover the following expenses: laptops, meals, data, transport, short courses, or monthly living stipends.
Successful candidates will be required to sign a bursary agreement with Gold One Gedex Operations.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements before applying. Failure to meet any requirement will result in disqualification.
External Applicants (non-employees and non-dependents)
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must reside within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng.
- Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Must be studying or intending to study towards a qualification in one of the approved fields listed above.
- Must be registered (or accepted) at a recognised and accredited South African tertiary institution.
- Must be in financial need.
- Preference will be given to students from mine hosting communities, including Springs, Benoni, Brakpan, Nigel, and nearby townships.
Internal Applicants (employees or dependents)
- Must be a permanent employee of Gold One, or a direct dependent of an employee.
- Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Must be registered at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa.
Required Supporting Documents
All applications must include the following certified PDF documents (certified by SAPS):
External Applicants
- Certified copy of ID document.
- Certified copy of proof of tertiary registration.
- Certified formal quotations for study-related expenses.
- Certified proof of parents’/guardians’ household income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of grant/pension if applicable).
- Certified proof of residence.
Internal Applicants
- Internal Application Form (available from T & A Department).
- Certified copy of proof of tertiary registration.
- Certified formal quotations for study-related expenses.
