How to Create a myNSFAS Account for 2026 Applications

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has opened applications for the 2026 academic year. To apply for NSFAS funding, all applicants must first create a myNSFAS account on the official website.

What You Need Before Creating a myNSFAS Account

To set up your account, make sure you have:

  • A stable internet connection
  • An active cellphone number or email address
  • A valid South African ID number

Step-by-Step Guide to Create a myNSFAS Account

  1. Visit www.nsfas.org.za
  2. Click on the myNSFAS Account tab at the top right of the screen
  3. Click on Create Profile
  4. Enter your ID number as the username and create a password
  5. Provide your email address and cellphone number
  6. Allow NSFAS to verify your details
  7. Click on Register

Verification Process

  • An OTP (One-Time Pin) will be sent to your email and cellphone number.
  • Enter the OTP and click Submit.
  • You will then receive an SMS and email confirmation that your myNSFAS account has been created.

Important: Creating a myNSFAS account does not mean you have applied for funding. You must still log in and complete the full application form.


Why You Need a myNSFAS Account

Your myNSFAS account will allow you to:

  • Apply for funding online
  • Track the progress of your application
  • Update personal details (email, cellphone number, banking details)
  • Receive communication directly from NSFAS
